The utility will recommend allowing citizens to call up twice a year for pickups as needed.City Council MeetingTuesday, July 27, 5 p.m.City Council ChambersFirst floor, Municipal Bldg.747 Market StreetTax Levy for Medic OneThe Council will vote on putting Proposition 1 – the Tacoma Fire Department Medic One Emergency Services Tax Levy – on the primary ballot September 14.The proposition would continue the current levy of $.42 or less per $1,000 of assessed valuation, but would be a permanent, rather than temporary levy.The current provision is scheduled to expire at the end of 2000.Tacoma Power BondsThe Council will take testimony and vote on issuing approximately $37 million of Light Division Revenue Bonds. If approved, Tacoma Power will use bond proceeds to fund a number of capital projects.Hosmer, Foss AlternativesThe City is investigating spending an additional $280,000 to design improvements to the Hosmer holding basin and look at alternatives to sending stormwater runoff into the Thea Foss Waterway. The Council will take testimony and vote on this topic.Community Block Grant FundsThe Council will take testimony and vote on dividing the Department of Housing and Urban Developments annual Community Development Block Grant funds – about $500,000.This year, 60 Tacoma projects applied for the funds. The Citys Urban Policy Committee reviewed the list and made recommendations to the Council about which projects should receive funding.Halfway Houses HoldThe Council will take testimony on extending a freeze on permits for new work release centers and juvenile community facilities for an additional six months. The current moratorium ends August 10. The Council is considering tightening size limitations and wants time to craft new regulations. A vote is expected August 3.”
