Metro Parks Tacoma announced today wire thieves struck the South End Recreation Area, or SERA Sport Complex, located at 6002 S. Adams. The vandals stripped the complex’s Green and Gold Fields of wiring used for night games. The theft occurred sometime between a Wednesday evening game and Thursday evening, when staff discovered vandals sawed through stainless steel covers and stole the wire, knocking out power to the fields. Preliminary material and labor estimates are anticipated to run $3,000 to $6,000 for restoration of services affected by the theft, and take between 20 to 40 hours of labor for repair. Neither field is scheduled for evening use within the period anticipated for repairs so youth and adult sports will continue as scheduled while repairs are completed. Citizens are asked to be on the lookout and report any suspicious activity involving public facilities. Anyone with information related to the wire theft at SERA is asked to contact the Tacoma Police Department.
