Univ. of Puget Sound hires VP for enrollment

Jenny Rickard has been named vice president for enrollment at University of Puget Sound (UPS). Rickard comes to UPS from Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, where she currently serves as chief enrollment and communications officer. Rickard will provide leadership in enrollment planning, student recruitment, admission, and financial aid, serving as an advisor to President Ronald R. Thomas and overseeing a staff of 32 in the Office of Admission and Student Financial Services. Rickard will join UPS on Jan. 2, 2013.

Rickard’s experience encompasses all areas of college enrollment management, including admission, marketing communications, technology, and financial aid. During the 10 years that she served at Bryn Mawr, as chief enrollment and communications officer (2009–present) and as dean of admissions and financial aid (2002–09), she met enrollment and net tuition revenue goals, increased applications by 50 percent, increased enrollment of students of color from the United States by 50 percent, and nearly doubled the number of international students on campus.

Rickard’s professional experience also includes roles at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, including associate dean of admissions and director of admissions technology and research, and a position as an admission recruitment coordinator for New York University School of Law. A wide range of commitments to the national higher education community includes service as a member of the College Board’s SAT committee (2008–11) and president of The Common Application (2007–08), among many other roles.

Rickard’s career also has extended into the private sphere, including senior roles in developing, implementing, and marketing enrollment management software at California-based PeopleSoft and work as a consultant for the higher education software company Datatel. She also spent two years as a financial management trainee at financial services firm J.P. Morgan & Co. in New York, and is currently a lecturer in enrollment management at University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education.

Rickard received a doctorate in higher education management from University of Pennsylvania; a Master of Business Administration degree from New York University, Stern School of Business; and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Swarthmore College. She replaces longtime Vice President for Enrollment George Mills, a UPS graduate and national leader in higher education enrollment management whose career has spanned 42 years at UPS.
