Stick a Fork in Cancer Feb. 25th Fundraiser

Hollywood-themed event allows you to mingle, bid on auctions and save lives

Tacoma– Dress up in your favorite Hollywood glamour clothes and help the American Cancer Society of Tacoma take a bite out of cancer, by attending the Stick a Fork in Cancer fundraiser, 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Larson Mercedes Dealership of Fife, 1701 Alexander Ave. E, Fife, WA.

This is the second annual fundraising event, showcasing local restaurants, wineries and breweries from around the South Puget Sound. Proceeds raised from Stick a Fork in Cancer will benefit the “80 by 2018” initiative, cutting edge cancer research and programs that help continue to deliver services to patients and families. The national 80 by 2018 initiative is committed to substantially reducing colorectal cancer as a major public health problem by working towards a goal of 80 percent of adults age 50 and up being regularly screened for colorectal cancer by 2018.

Event goers can bid on auction items such as four passes to Disneyland, a five-day trip to Cancun, Mexico, private wine class, theater tickets and signed sports paraphernalia from the Seahawks and the Sounders.

“This is a terrific opportunity for people to have a fun evening, while helping to raise funds for a serious cause—getting the appropriate people screened for colon cancer,” said Becky Crocker, senior market manager for the American Cancer Society of Tacoma. “Colorectal cancer is the nation’s second-leading cause of cancer-related deaths; however, it is one of only a few cancers that can be prevented.”

If you buy tickets ahead of time, the price is $30-$45. Tickets at the door are $50-$65. To purchase tickets online, go to https://www.eventbrite.com/e/stick-a-fork-in-cancer-tickets-26431750076. The gala is sponsored by Larson Mercedes-Benz of Tacoma.

The American Cancer Society is the nation’s largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing about $3.4 billion, with an unyielding passion to save lives and end suffering from cancer. As a global grassroots force of more than five million volunteers, ACS fights for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. ACS saves lives by helping people stay well with early detection and prevention; by helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer; and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight.
