Special discount makes camp at Wapato Park a real deal

A new camp in Wapato Park for children 6 to 12 years old takes its cue from PBS KIDS programs such as “Odd Squad,” “Super Why” and “Dinosaur Train.”

PBS Kids Wapato Exploration Camp features science experiences, plus reading and math games, and all kinds of outdoor fun.  It runs from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily.  Each camper receives free lunch every day, plus a free camp T-shirt.

Metro Parks Tacoma offers the camp for $125 per week. If your child qualifies for a free or reduced-price lunch in school, the cost is $20.

Wapato Park is located at 6802 S. Sheridan Ave., Tacoma. The camp is offered in weekly installments through August 26.

To qualify for $20 registration, please bring a copy of your child’s official school district free-or-reduced- price lunch letter to Metro Parks headquarters, and apply for financial assistance. Metro Parks headquarters is at 4702 S. 19th St., Tacoma. Funding is limited, so parents are encouraged to sign up right away.
