Gig Harbor Midday Rotary opens registration for Golferitaville Charity Tournament

Golferitaville, a Jimmy Buffet-inspired tournament, is open for registration. The tournament is an annual fund raiser for charity through the Midday Rotary Club of Gig Harbor. The event features food, drinks or games on every tee, as well as cars and other significant prizes on the 4 Par 3 holes, all taking place at McCormick Woods Golf Course, Friday, July 21st. Golfers are greeted with live Caribbean music and hundreds of pink flamingos, and experience a fun, interactive day with over 50 sponsors on-site. Sponsored margaritas and beer are served all day.

Tournament registration includes a continental breakfast, lunch and awards dinner. The best ball format is popular with recreational golfers as well as accomplished players. Area businesses have donated over $15,000 in raffle prizes, all to be given away at the tournament.  A “Somewhere In Paradise” mini-auction is held during dinner with items including cruises, Seahawks tickets and vacation stays.

A new highlight of Golferitaville is the Helicopter Ball Drop that will take place at the end of tournament play. One thousand numbered golf balls will be dropped over a tee with cash prizes given to those whose balls roll into the cup. Rotary members are currently selling chances to enter the Helicopter Ball Drop.

All tournament proceeds are donated to charities benefitting at risk youth and families in the Gig Harbor area with emphasis on providing support to students and people who want to change their lives through education and training. Some of the most notable recipients from past tournaments have included The Red Barn Youth Center on the Key Peninsula, Communities In Schools of Peninsula, The Job Readiness Training Program and the Prison Pet Partnership Program at the Women’s Correctional Facility in Purdy, scholarships to all area high schools and support of the KP Free Medical Clinic. In addition, the Rotary Club sponsors hearing, medical and sanitation programs in third world countries.
