Workshop series aims to direct county park development

A series of public workshops starting this month are aimed at giving citizens the opportunity to tell Pierce County what kind of a regional park should be developed south of Bonney Lake. The 80-acre site at 198th Avenue and 128th Street East was recently acquired by the county in a three-way land exchange involving White River School District and developer Homeland Ventures.

The first workshop will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. June 27 at Fire District 12 Headquarters Station, 10515 234th Ave. E., Buckley. The two others will be held Aug. 15 and Sept. 21 at the same time and location.

“This new regional park site is going to be a wonderful addition to the County’s Parks and Recreation plan for eastern Pierce County,” said County Executive John W. Ladenburg.

At the workshops Parks staff will present information about the site and request citizen input as to possible site uses and facilities.

“Public comment is an important part of the site master plan development process,” said Parks and Recreation Director Kathy Kravit-Smith.
