Walk Tacoma series continues July 16 with family walking tour

The fifth annual Walk Tacoma series continues this month with a family walking tour in downtown Tacoma.

The one-hour walk, sponsored by the Tacoma Rainiers, will begin at noon on Weds., July 16, at the Children’s Museum of Tacoma, located at 1501 Pacific Ave., in downtown Tacoma. The walk will be led by Franciscan Health System Senior Vice President Dianna Kielian. There is no need to pre-register for the event.

Walk Tacoma 2014 is an eight-event walking series held on first and third Wednesdays, from April through August. The fun, themed walks encourage downtown employees and residents to exercise and enjoy the outdoors by discovering the different walking routes and parks in downtown Tacoma. The walks are scheduled at the lunch hour and just after work to encourage downtown employees to walk during their workday, whether it is to and from work or at a lunch break.

Walking maps of the routes are available at no cost at Downtown On the Go, 950 Pacific Ave., Suite 300, at many downtown businesses, or by contacting Meagan Kula, Downtown On the Go Coordinator, at (253) 682-1734 or dotg@tacomachamber.org. More information is available online here.

***UPDATE | Mon., July 7, 2014 @ 3:05 p.m. — Choose between a Family Walk, led by  Kielian and geared toward children elementary school age and younger, or a History Walk led by local historian Ron Magden.  Both groups will walk the same one-mile route.
