Volunteer today for Tacoma's Landmarks Preservation Commission

Tacoma City Council invites qualified individuals to apply for a vacancy on the Landmarks Preservation Commission, for the following position:

Architect — Open to residents of Tacoma who are currently or have been in the past professionally certified architects. The individual appointed to this position will serve the remainder of an unexpired term ending December 31, 2014.

Professional — Individuals who have had professional experience or training related to historic preservation originating from employment or study within a related discipline. The individual appointed to this position will serve the remainder of an unexpired term ending December 31, 2012.

Ex-officio (Wedge Neighborhood Historic District) — Open to residents, property owners or business owners located within the boundaries of the Wedge Neighborhood Historic Special Review District. Position serves in a nonvoting advisory capacity on matters relating to the Wedge Neighborhood, for the remainder of a four year term to end December 31, 2015.

The Commission is comprised of 11 citizen volunteers who serve three-year terms. Members are recommended for appointment by the Council Appointments Committee and confirmed by the City Council. For more information, visit http://www.tacomaculture.org .

The Landmarks Preservation Commission oversees the establishment and regulation of landmarks, landmark sites and historic districts. Commission meetings are held at 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month.
