Tours will celebrate Tacoma history in May

Tour Tacoma’s past to celebrate Historic Preservation Month
May is National Historic Preservation Month across the United States. Tacoma will celebrate this special month with the following activities:

2006 Tour of Historic Tacoma Homes — Since 1993, the Tacoma Historical Society has hosted its popular Grand Homes of Tacoma annual tours. The itinerary of homes changes each year. The tour will occur on May 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on May 7 from 1 to 5 p.m. The cost is $15 for non-members and $12 for members. A Tour of the Historic Churches Surrounding Wright Park — Local architect and preservationist Gerald Eysaman will lead a walking tour of the Churches around Wright Park, discussing their architecture and histories on May 14 from 2 to 5 p.m. The tour will meet at the front steps of First Presbyterian Church. Landmarks Nomination Workshop — Local historic preservation professionals and Landmarks Commission members will provide helpful tips, information and insight into nominating properties for the local historic register on May 20 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.This event is free, but space may be limited.
