Thun Field to host car show Aug. 16

The 18th annual Rogers High School car show and aircraft fly-in will be held at Pierce County’s Thun Field on Sun., Aug. 16, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for students; kids under 12 get in free.

A collection of classic cars and aircraft will be on hand, along with food, entertainment and fun activities. Vehicle registration for car show participants begins at 8 a.m.

The annual fund-raiser started 18 years ago and has been held at Thun Field since 2000. Spencer Aircraft and Thun Field provide space to hold the event and assist with running it.

The event attracts up to 300 show cars and over 1,000 spectators, but as booster club organizer Cari McLaren notes, it’s entirely weather dependent. “We had a freak storm in 2007 that completely rained us out,” she said. Sometimes other unexpected things happen, too. Last year a local teenager entered her drag racer in the show.

Proceeds from the event are used by the booster club to support a variety of school programs that have been affected by budget cuts. Money is used to assist programs rather than individual students.

The Rogers Rams Booster Club is operated by parent volunteers to provide additional support to the students of Rogers High School in Puyallup. Their mission is to foster student arts, academics, activities, and athletics, and they have been able to fund projects and activities that the school district is unable to or not allowed to fund.
