Community members are urged to gather and reflect on the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan Sat., March 26 from 10 a.m. until noon at Thea’s Park, 405 Dock St. During the event, elected officials and representatives from the Japanese community in Tacoma will speak. There will also be time for members of the public to come forward and offer a thought and sign a book that will be sent to Japan. Tacoma’s ties with Japan are deeply rooted. Its first Sister City relationship was established in 1959 with Kitakyushu, Japan. Japan is the Port of Tacoma’s second largest trading partner and over the past 50 years we have had developed a strong business relationship. Donations for the American Red Cross relief work in Japan will be accepted at the event.
