Primary Payroll Skills will meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays from Sept. 27 through Oct. 18 on Tacoma Community Colleges main campus, 6501 S. 19th St., Tacoma. This course is designed to teach payroll fundamentals to those new to the payroll field or with limited experience in payroll administration. It can also be taken by experienced payroll professionals to prepare for the Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) and Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification exams. The fee for this non-credit class is $425 and includes the textbook.
Course content will include pay classifications and calculations, manual and out-of-cycle payments, tip credits, federal income tax calculation, journal entries, systems edits, balancing, and essentials of customer service. Payroll professionals will learn rules that apply to payroll and the reasons behind many things they do on a daily basis.
Essential Payroll Skills will meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays from Oct. 27 through Nov. 22 on TCCs main campus, 6501 S. 19th St., Tacoma. This course is designed to give payroll professionals an intermediate level of payroll education and expand knowledge and skills in the area of federal law and regulatory compliance. It covers key material included on FPC and CPP certification exams. The fee for this non-credit class is $425 and includes the textbook.
Course content will include categories of employment, compensation time issues, master file components, retention requirements, preparing and balancing remittances for deductions of funding requests, direct deposits, taxation, involuntary deductions, tax deposits, internal controls and audits, reporting requirements, and payroll journal entries.
