First, he was credited with breaking news that soon lead to national headlines. Now his story itself may be seen by millions.

John Hathaway, publisher of a Tacoma Internet site who first wrote about the bitter divorce of Tacoma Police Chief David Brame, sold the rights to his story for a potential movie.

Hathaway’s scoop was picked up by the local media, and only a few days later Brame shot and killed his estranged wife and himself.

Hathaway, who works as a bartender, said he will receive $50,000 if the story ends up on television and double that if it makes it to the big screen.
