Tacoma SCORE Chapter Awards Second Annual Scholarship

“The Tacoma chapter of SCORE, the Service Corps of Retired Executives, continued its $1,500 scholarship program for qualified graduating Tacoma high school seniors who are continuing on to some formal business oriented school or training program.This year’s winner is Amber Thomas of Foss High School. Thomas has been accepted to attend Michigan University, and is planning to obtain a degree in Business Administration.Thomas received her scholarship at a recent Tacoma School District Awards Banquet, and was also acknowledged during the Spotlight on Business awards ceremony, June 7.The Tacoma SCORE chapter worked closely with Alex Apostle, the assistant superintendent of high school education for Tacoma Public Schools, in identifying deserving students who want to obtain an education in the field of business. The SCORE scholarship program is aimed at students who have made significant academic improvement and who have an economic need relating to continuing their education.SCORE is a national nonprofit organization sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
