Tacoma sales tax rate changes July 1

Many businesses statewide will need to reprogram their cash registers to reflect changes in sales tax rates beginning July 1. Certain local sales tax rates in Pierce, Chelan, Walla Walla, and Whatcom counties will increase beginning with the third quarter of 2012. In Pierce County, Tacoma will see a slight rate increase of one-tenth of one percent to 3 percent. The tax will be used for chemical dependency or mental health treatment services.

In Chelan County, the sales and use tax rate within the City of Wenatchee will increase two-tenths of one percent to 1.8 percent. The tax will be used for the Public Facilities District. In Walla Walla County the City of Walla Walla will establish a Transportation Benefit District (TBD) to be used for transportation services. The sales and use tax rate will increase two-tenths of one percent to 2.4 percent. In Whatcom County, the City of Ferndale will establish a TBD. Sales and use tax rate within the City of Ferndale will increase two-tenths of one percent to 2.2 percent, with the tax earmarked for transportation services.
