The cities of Tacoma and Lakewood will receive more than $6.6 million in federal assistance to stimulate local economies, promote affordable housing, help the homeless and assist families and individuals, Housing and Urban Secretary Mel Martinez announced yesterday.
These grants do so much good for so many people, Martinez said. This money helps communities do the critical work of stimulating business development and job growth, providing affordable housing and helping our most vulnerable neighbors.
The funding announced yesterday includes:
Tacoma
– $3,311,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds;
– $2,278,000 in Home Investment Partnership (HOME) funds; and
– $120,000 in Emergency Shelter Grant (ESG) funds.
Lakewood
– $897,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds.
