Tacoma fire fighters battle residential house blaze

Tacoma fire fighters responded early Wednesday morning to a house fire in the 1200 block of South Adams Street. According to Tacoma Fire spokesperson Joe Meinecke, fire fighters from seven companies arrived at the scene at 12:25 a.m. to find heavy flames and smoke on the deck and back of a two-story, 1,588-square-foot residence. The fire quickly spread from the deck, up the side of the house, and throughout the interior attic area. One adult was treated and transported by private ambulance to a local hospital, and the Red Cross was requested to provide relocation assistance for three occupants displaced by the fire, according to Meinecke. A fire investigator determined that the probable cause of the fire was discarded smoking materials resulting in an estimated $80,000 damage to the building and its contents.
