Tacoma Fire defeats Tacoma Police in hoops fundraiser

The Tacoma Fire Department held off the Tacoma Police Department for a 55-41 victory in a basketball game June 23 to raise funds for the Hilltop Action Coalition. This basketball game was the first in a series of what will become an annual event.

James Donaldson, former NBA player, was the Master of Ceremonies at the event at the University of Puget Sound Fieldhouse. Each team had 13 players representing their respective departments. Firefighter Bruce Bouyer and Lieutenant Brian Hardy of the Tacoma Fire Department and Lieutenant Cory Darlington of the Tacoma Police Department worked to coordinate this event.

The game trophy will find a home at Tacoma Fire Department Headquarters for the next year.

More than 30 corporate and business sponsors worked with the Hilltop Action Coalition in this fund raising effort. The fire and police departments aimed to raise $5,000 through this fundraiser, and although the final receipts have not yet been counted, officials believe they have reached their target.
