Tacoma celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Jan. 16

Celebrate the dream and the dreamer at the 24th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration on Mon., Jan. 16, at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall.

This year’s theme, “Forgiving the Past ~ Embracing the Future,” is a musical tribute to the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The keynote speaker for this year’s event, Ms. Ester Nicholson, brings a message for our community that aligns with Dr. King’s message of hope, encouragement and possibilities. The doors of the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall, 2727 East D. St., will open at 10 a.m. and the event will take place between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Admission is free, and participants are encouraged to contribute to the MLK food drive by bringing nonperishable food or monetary donations to the event.

This celebratory event involves the efforts of a volunteer planning committee, sponsorship support from local businesses, colleges, municipalities, community-based organizations, social-service providers and volunteer organizations.
