The Third Annual Tacoma Bike Swap is Sat., April 30 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the University of Puget Sound Memorial Fieldhouse, on the corner of North 11th Street and Union Avenue. Vendors will be selling bikes and bike parts for all types of riding and age groups.
Highlights of the Bike Swap include:
— Bike Corral: Have a bike to sell? Bring it, with a lock, to the Bike Corral. Just lock it up and fill out a contact tag with your phone number, to ensure those who are interested in purchasing your bike can contact you;
— Pierce Transit Bus: See how easy it is to load your bike on a Pierce Transit bus and learn about Pierce Transit’s summer youth pass;
— Bike Registration: Meet members of Pierce Transit’s Transit Security Bike Team. Protect your bike by registering it for free with the National Bike Registry;
— Helmet Fittings: $7 adult and children’s helmet sales and free fittings with Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital Center for Childhood Safety;
— REI Tent: Free “Intro to Bike Maintenance Clinics” with REI at 11 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. (pre-register at the REI tent before each class). You can also sign up for the Bike Month Commuter Challenge. Bike to work just five days in May to qualify for great prize drawings;
— Free Flat Repairs: Tacoma Bike will repair your flat tires (labor and tubes are included);
— Kids’ Ride Zone: Cruise through the Kids’ Ride Zone, a fun and safe designated area for your child to test ride a new bike and learn about traffic signs and bike safety;
— Challenge the Map Master: Learn the quickest, safest way to reach a destination on your bike from a bike route expert;
— Tacoma Wheelmen: Learn how Tacoma Wheelmen’s Bicycle Club members enjoy a wide variety of fun bike rides, from “easy” to “very hilly,” plus they’ve got kids rides planned throughout May.
Everything is free for the public. Individuals who want to sell one or two bikes don’t need to pre-register. They can just bring the bike and a lock and take advantage of the Bike Corral.
