Tacoma Bid Watch: Police body cameras, Old City Hall repairs, and roadway improvements

The Tacoma Daily Index often publishes the City of Tacoma’s calls for bids asking contractors to meet the City’s needs on a range of supplies, services, and projects. Here is a short-list of some recent and notable calls for bids issued by the City of Tacoma.

Following up on an item reported earlier in the Tacoma Daily Index, 11 contractors responded to the City’s Request For Information (RFI) published in the Tacoma Daily Index in March regarding a 30-day pilot project to test five cameras worn by Tacoma police officersBid documents prepared by City staff show the Tacoma Police Department is interested in implementing the pilot program within the next 90 days, and is collecting literature on the latest body cameras, evidence transfer modules, and online storage. Any manufacturer or authorized distributor who can sell these products were encouraged to submit their letter of interest, technical data, safety data sheets, warranty, brochures, suggested price lists, and a sample of the product for review. The deadline to respond to the RFI expired at 11 a.m. on Tues., April 12. Information posted on the City’s Web site shows the following contractors responded to the RFI: Taser International Inc. (Scottsdale, Ariz.); COBAN Technologies Inc. (Houston, Tex.); HauteSpot Networks Corporation (San Luis Obispo, Calif.); Unicom Government Inc. (Herndon, VA); Motorola Solutions Inc. (Seattle, Wash.); PCS Mobile (Denver, Colo.); Vievu, LLC (Seattle, Wash.); Provisium (Junction City, Ore.); Vion Corporation (Herndon, VA); Watch Guard (Allen, Tex.); and Hackett Security (St. Louis, MO).

The City of Tacoma has issued a Request For Bids from contractors to repair and stabilize portions of Old City Hall in downtown Tacoma, according to a legal notice published this month in the Tacoma Daily Index (see “Old City Hall: Tacoma seeks contractor for historic building repairs,” Tacoma Daily Index, April 6, 2016). Bid documents prepared by City staff show the project involves the construction and installation of wooden window arch supports at 12 locations, the installation of netting to support the building’s metal cornices, and limited repointing of existing masonry and masonry repair. Contractors interested in the project are invited to attend a building site visit at 9 a.m. on Thurs., April 14, to view the roof and window interiors. The project budget is estimated at $130,000. The bid deadline expires at 11 a.m. on Weds., April 20. More information is available online here and here.

Four contractors responded to the City’s Request For Bids published in the Tacoma Daily Index in March regarding a local roadway improvement project. Information prepared by City staff shows the project involves pavement removal, roadway excavation, minor grading, paving with Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) over gravel for approximately 22 city blocks in the Fern Hill area of Tacoma. The work also includes constructing wedge curbs, concrete and asphalt ramps, replacing signage, sanitary sewer spot repairs, minor sanitary and storm sewer replacements, and new storm sewer extensions. The project budget is estimated at $1.285 million. The bid deadline expired at 11 a.m. on Tues., April 12. Information posted on the City’s Web site shows the following contractors responded to the Request For Bids: Miles Resources LLC (Puyallup, Wash.); Tucci & Sons Inc. (Tacoma, Wash.); Northwest Cascade Inc. (Puyallup, Wash.); and Ceccanti (Tacoma, Wash.).

Following up on an item reported earlier in the Tacoma Daily Index, one contractor responded to the City’s call for bids published in the Tacoma Daily Index in March to provide novelty vendor services during Tacoma Dome events. The bid deadline expired at 11 a.m. on Tues., March 29. Information posted on the City’s Web site shows Bitter Face Vending Inc. (Lake Stevens, Wash.) responded to the call for bids.
