Tacoma Arts Commission seeks volunteers

Do you have the skills and the passion to provide leadership in supporting and enhancing the arts in Tacoma? The Tacoma Arts Commission is seeking volunteers to fill two open positions. An artist is needed for one of the positions, but the other opening is available to anyone willing to serve actively for a three-year term.

The Tacoma Arts Commission is especially interested in applicants who live in underrepresented parts of the city and who will bring diversity to the 15-member group.

“Serving on the Tacoma Arts Commission gives citizens a front-row seat for Tacoma’s renaissance,” said Josie Turner, manager of the Tacoma Economic Development’s Culture & Tourism Division.

On behalf of the City Council, members of the Arts Commission help make a wide range of cultural projects happen, from grassroots festivals to theaters, museums and orchestras. The commission also plays a vital role in reviewing public art and assisting city staff in promoting our local artists and organizations here at home and throughout the country. Commission meetings are held the second Monday of each month at 5 p.m. in Room 16, Tacoma Municipal Building North, 728 St. Helens Ave.

Submit applications to the Mayor’s Office, Room 1200, Tacoma Municipal Building, 747 Market St., Tacoma, WA 98402.
