Surplus property focus of Tuesday's City Council study session

CITY OF TACOMA

Tacoma City Council is scheduled to be briefed on an overview of city-owned property during a study session Tuesday.

Staff from Tacoma’s Public Works Department will provide councilmembers with an overview of several initiatives and policy discussions around the management of the city’s property. The first initiative is a surplus property policy being developed at the request of city council’s economic development committee that establishes guiding principles for property sales and a property classification system. Staff will also brief councilmembers on an evaluation of the city’s property inventory. Pending the adoption of the disposition policy, staff is preparing recommended next steps to better align the city’s property inventory internally, and dispose of properties that do not contribute to the city’s economic development objectives.

Councilmembers will not take public comment during the study session, which will be held on Tues., July 31 at noon in the Tacoma Municipal Building North, 733 Market St., Room 16. Audio from the session will be broadcast live on TV Tacoma and online here. On-demand audio archives are available on the Web within 24 hours of the meeting here.
