Study session to focus on special needs housing moratorium

City Council members are scheduled to hear updates on three efforts undertaken over the last 11 months to address concerns with special needs housing in Tacoma. The session will include reports on the findings of an intergovernmental task force that analyzed methods for addressing community concerns, a review of the recommendations made in November 2005 by a Blue Ribbon Panel, and a review of the Planning Commission’s proposed amendments to the land use regulatory code for special needs housing. The City Council is scheduled to hold a public hearing regarding the proposed land use regulatory code revisions during its April 18 meeting. The city has been subject to a Special Needs Housing Moratorium since May 17, 2005. The Council will not take public comment during the study session. CityPost (Channel 85 on Click!, Channel 77 on Comcast) will air the audio portion of the session live. Replays of the study session audio may be heard Wednesday nights at 7 p.m. on CityPost (Channel 85 on Click!, Channel 77 on Comcast). On-demand audio archives are available on the Web within 24 hours of the meeting at http://www.tvtacoma.com .
