Spaceworks Tacoma celebrates 5th Anniversary

Spaceworks Tacoma will mark its fifth anniversary by hosting a community celebration in the city’s Hilltop neighborhood in September.

Founded in 2010, the organization is a joint initiative of the City of Tacoma and the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber that helps artists and creative entrepreneurs activate empty storefronts and vacant space in Tacoma. Over the past five years, Spaceworks Tacoma has activated 43 underused properties, assisted 73 creative businesses, and exhibited 106 large-scale art installations around Tacoma, according to organizers.

High Five! — a free, public celebration to mark the fifth anniversary — will be held on Sat., Sept. 12, between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m., at People’s Park (located at 900 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Way) and area Hilltop businesses. Attendees may enjoy a wide variety of arts and cultural activities featuring local artists and entrepreneurs, many of which are Spaceworks Tacoma alumni.
