Motorists awoke Sunday to treacherous travel conditions in the Puget Sound area, as the region experienced its first significant snowfall of the year.
About a half-inch of snow accumulated in the Seattle area, with up to 2 inches in places in Snohomish County, according to the National Weather Service.
The Washington State Patrol urged motorists to use extra caution as snow that fell Saturday afternoon and again Sunday began to melt and then freeze toward evening.
More than 150 accidents were reported Sunday morning in King County alone. On Saturday, a truck driver was killed and another person injured in a weather-related collision on Interstate 5 near Tacoma.
