Ramsdell named interim chief

Acting Tacoma Police Chief Dan Ramsdell was named interim chief this morning by City Manager Jim Watson.

The announcement was made during a 10 a.m. press conference held at the People’s Community Center.

An 18-year veteran of the Tacoma Police Department, Ramsdell, 43, was named an assistant chief last year. He was appointed acting chief May 1, in the aftermath of former Chief David Brame fatally shooting his wife, Crystal, before killing himself April 26.

Ramsdell will head the department while the search for a permanent chief continues.
