Port proposes 'user-friendly' guidelines for commission meetings

In an effort to make Port of Tacoma commission meetings more ‘user-friendly,’ Commissioners will consider standard guidelines at the Jan. 17 meeting for citizen presentations. Citizens have always been welcome to speak at the public meetings, and guidelines under consideration spell out what citizens should expect when they present. The resolution provides standard sign-in procedures for testimony and establishes a consistent time frame for citizens (three minutes) and organizations (five minutes). Further meeting improvements include a greeter to welcome attendees. Future plans to make meetings more accessible include streaming the meetings live on the Port Web site at portoftacoma.com, beginning in March, broadcasting replays of the meetings on Comcast and Click! Cable networks, archiving the meetings on the Web, and sending news advisories to interested citizens.
