Port leader appointed to governor’s economic development commission

Port of Tacoma Commission President Connie Bacon was recently appointed to Washington State Governor Christine Gregoire’s Economic Development Commission.

“Connie Bacon’s strong commitment to the community and her background in trade and commerce will make her an excellent commissioner,” said Governor Gregoire. “Her dedication will serve the state’s business and labor communities well.”

The Economic Development Commission provides strategic and policy direction to the Washington State Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development. The Commission works with the state’s business and labor community to develop trade and economic development policies.

Bacon was elected to the Port Commission in 1997 and was re-elected in 2001 and 2005. She is a former Executive Director of the World Trade Center Tacoma and served eight years as Special Assistant to former Washington State Governor Booth Gardner. She serves on the Board of Directors for numerous organizations, including the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce, the Asia Pacific Cultural Center, the Regional Access Mobility Project (RAMP), and the Tideflats Rail Oversight Committee. She is also a member of the Advisory Board for the Port of Tacoma Endowed Chair at the University of Washington-Tacoma.
