Pierce Transit wins kudos from Auditor

Brian Sonntag, Washington State Auditor, presented a letter of congratulations at the Dec. 9 Pierce Transit Board of Commissioners meeting for the agency achieving eight consecutive years with no findings during the annual audit of the financial statements.

“This significant accomplishment shows Pierce Transit’s dedication to sound financial operations and timely financial reporting,” Sonntag stated. “I view our partnership as a model for relationships with other agencies.”

Pierce Transit is the public transportation agency for Pierce County, providing local and regional express bus service, vanpools, rideshare services and specialized transportation for people with disabilities.

The agency receives 46 percent of it annual funding from a 0.6 percent local sales tax.

Last year, the agency provided more than 14.6 million passenger trips.
