Pierce Transit, Point Defiance roll out colorful ‘Zoo Bus’

You may have noticed an unusually-decorated bus traveling around the area recently.

Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium and Pierce Transit unveiled a new “Zoo Bus” last Tuesday.

The bus, which is completely covered with animals, will be assigned to regular duty on different routes throughout the Pierce Transit service area, so you never know where it will pop up.

The distinctive humps on the bus’ roof indicate that it is a “Clean Machine” fueled by clean-burning compressed natural gas.

Pierce Transit is a national leader in the operation of CNG buses for public transportation.

The bus wrap, created by Tacoma-based Rusty George Design, is a community partners project.

Pierce Transit has a bus line that includes stops at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium and Point Defiance Park.

As part of the partnership agreement, Pierce Transit will provide free bus rides to the zoo from the Tacoma Community College parking lots on Sunday, July 18, the date of the grand opening celebration for the zoo’s stunning new Asian Forest Sanctuary.
