Pierce County hires security manager

The hiring of Mike Dorman to fill Pierce County’s new security manager position was announced last week by Facilities Management Director Bret Carlstad.

Dorman was security and transportation manager at the Meydenbauer Convention Center prior to joining Pierce County Oct. 20. He previously served as security administrator for the Utah Transit Authority; sergeant, Summit County, Utah, Sheriff’s Department; and officer, Park City, Utah, Police Department. In a special assignment with the Utah Olympic Public Safety Command, he served as a venue commander for the 2002 Olympic Games.

The new position’s primary security management responsibilities are assessing facility security levels, developing security policies and procedures, and specifying and overseeing the deployment and operations of security access control systems.

The security manager will be the primary point of contact for the County’s security vendor, Olympic Security, and will work with County departments in deploying physical security systems and enabling departments to operate in ways that minimize security risks and implement loss control practices. Dorman already has joined the Lenel Core Team and is expected to provide leadership to the group.
