PHOTOS: High winds, heavy rain cause Tacoma damages

The weather is wild in the Puget Sound region as a storm moves through the area today carrying high winds and heavy rain. The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning and a flood watch alert, and power outages, park closures, and bridge closures have been reported in Western Washington. Local government agencies have shared photographs of weather-related damage. This post will be updated as more photos/information becomes available.

1:51 p.m. — The City of Tacoma shared this photograph of crews responding to a downed tree blocking South Tyler Street near Foss High School.

1:58 p.m. — It’s unclear if this is weather-related, but the Tacoma Fire Department shared this photograph of a vehicle vs. house incident in the 500 block of East 72nd Street. Tacoma Fire Department officials reported five people were transported to local hospitals for further evaluation.

2:24 p.m. — The City of Tacoma shared this photograph of a downed tree near North 15th Street and North Fife Street. According to City officials, seven trees and eight stop signs were reported down over a two-hour period.
