Shannon Cortez has been appointed deputy director of elections by Secretary of State Kim Wyman.

  •  Cortez has 18 years of experience in elections administration, both with Pierce County and King County, where she has been deputy elections director. In Pierce, she worked with Auditors Cathy Pearsall-Stipek, Pat McCarthy and Jan Shabro, and in King, she assisted Julie Wise. Cortez succeeds Allyson Ruppenthal, who has joined Thurston County government.

• The Washington Poison Center welcomed its new medical director, Dr. Erica Liebelt, on Sept. 1. A pediatric toxicologist, Dr. Liebelt will also serve as a clinical professor of pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine.

As medical director, Dr. Liebelt will report to the WAPC Board of Directors and provide medical oversight ensuring the poison information specialists at the WAPC continue to provide high-quality poisoning treatment advice and consultations. She will also support clinical education and outreach at the local, state and national level for health care providers.

 Elizabeth Court

• The Olympic Consortium and the Olympic Workforce Development Council appointed

Elizabeth Court as director of the Olympic Workforce Development Council. Court previously worked as a labor economist for the Washington State Employment Security Department, assistant director for University of Washington Educational Outreach, Pacific division marketing manager for Maersk/SeaLand and served in the U.S. Coast Guard.

 Isiaah Crawford 

• University of Puget Sound President Isiaah Crawford was honored by the American Psychological Association’s Minority Fellowship Program for attaining a prestigious leadership role in higher education as a result of his work, scholarship, and commitment to public service.

Crawford, a clinical psychologist, scholar, college administrator, and community leader, is being recognized with the 2016 Training Advisory Committee Special Award. An alumnus of the Minority Fellowship Program, Crawford has often focused his research and scholarship on the needs of those in diverse and underserved communities. This is the third award he has received from the APA.
