Passengers hop on inaugural Seattle-Tacoma reverse commute Sounder train

A thin population of no more than two-dozen passengers climbed aboard a Sound Transit commuter train this morning for its inaugural “reverse commute” trip. Sounder Train #1501 left King Street Station at 6:10 a.m., with stops at stations in Tukwila, Kent, Auburn, Sumner, and Puyallup, before finally arriving at Tacoma Dome Station at 7:10 a.m.

Though Sound Transit operates frequent Express Bus service between Seattle and Tacoma, the reverse-commute Sounder was the first time people who live in Seattle and work in Tacoma had an opportunity to travel by train for their morning commute. The new Sounder service operates Monday through Friday. On the afternoon trip to Seattle, the #1510 train leaves Tacoma Dome Station at 4:45 p.m. and arrives in Seattle at 5:45 p.m.
