Council members are scheduled to hear the final reading of an ordinance April 17 that would add a new chapter to the Tacoma Municipal Code relating to traffic safety and enforcement. The new codes would authorize the use of automated traffic safety cameras, establish procedures for contesting infractions, allow for electronic signatures and would establish penalties for violators. The ordinance provides for the use of automated traffic safety cameras for stop light, railroad crossing, and school speed-zone infractions only. It also provides that the City will mark all intersections that are monitored by camera.
