Ordinance would amend Land Use Regulatory Code

Members of Council are scheduled July 14 to hear the first reading on an ordinance that would make amendments to the Land Use Regulatory Code. The modifications include the development regulations pertaining to mixed-use centers, including, but not limited to, increasing height limits and reducing parking requirements, modifying building design and development standards, adding new townhouse standards, establishing new mixed-use zoning classifications, and rezoning properties within 16 designated mixed-use centers to mixed-use zoning districts. Mixed-use centers were originally established in 1993 and are a primary component of the City’s strategy to accommodate future growth as mandated by the Growth Management Act. Currently there are 17 centers; eight neighborhood centers, seven community centers, and two regional growth centers (the Tacoma Mall and downtown).
