Open for business: Highly anticipated convention center welcomes first visitors this weekend

From excavation to final touches, the Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center is finally ready to unveil the result of many years of planning. This weekend will be filled with events for the city’s residents, visitors and families.

Here is a schedule of events for Tacoma’s newest meetings & events facility:

Sat., Nov. 13, 2004
11 a.m. — Ribbon cutting and doors open
11 a.m. – 4 p.m. — Open house including a full day of entertainment, amusements (Fun Zone games & rides), speakers, art tours & cultural exhibits.
1 p.m. and 3 p.m. — Guided public art tours (Extensive art has been commissioned throughout the facility)
4 p.m. – 6 p.m. — Building Closed
6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. — Media Open House (Press badge required, contact information below)
6 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. — Doors open for the opening night gala “The Future is Clear… The Future is Here!” (Ticket required. Tickets available to the public are sold on a first come first serve basis)

Sun., Nov. 14, 2004
12 p.m. – 5 p.m. — Open house including a full day of entertainment, amusements (Fun Zone games & rides), speakers, art tours & cultural exhibits.
1 p.m. and 3 p.m. — Guided public art tours (Extensive art has been commissioned throughout the facility)
5 p.m. — Facility closed.
