New Website encourages reuse of building materials

Do you have perfectly good large household items or reusable building materials set to go to the landfill?

Hold on! A free online option – 2good2toss.com – is available for Tacoma-Pierce County residents and businesses to post, browse and buy items priced from free to $99.

2good2toss.com is an environmentally-friendly way to get rid of appliances, furniture, plumbing fixtures, cabinets, carpet, lumber, tools, electronics, automotive parts and more.

With the goal of saving landfill space, Tacoma Solid Waste Management and Pierce County Solid Waste Division have teamed up with the Washington State Department of Ecology and nine other municipalities state-wide to encourage reuse through 2good2toss.com.

On the 2good2toss.com Website, residents and businesses can browse items among any of the participating jurisdictions, but they are only allowed to post items in their own jurisdiction.

Listings are always free, but items must be offered for $99 or less. The 2good2toss.com Web site does not handle purchase arrangements like Amazon or eBay. It just facilitates communication between buyers and sellers so transactions can take place.

“Tacoma Solid Waste Management is excited to offer residents a fun, free and easy way to reuse items that may normally end up in our landfill,” said Bill Smith, senior environmental specialist. “2good2toss.com users not only add some ‘green’ to their pocketbooks by eliminating disposal costs, but they’re also adding to a ‘green’ environment.”
