New train for Seattle-Tacoma trek

Weekday commuters between Tacoma and Seattle get another option beginning September 26, with the addition of a fourth round-trip train on Sound Transit’s Sounder commuter rail service.

“Sounder is one of our most popular services,” said Sound Transit Board Chair and Pierce County Executive John Ladenburg. “And, now, commuters will have one more alternative to sitting in freeway traffic.”

“We are so pleased to bring this fourth train on-line earlier than expected,” added Ladenburg. “It’s another example of the strong partnership between Sound Transit and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway; BNSF was not under any obligation to add a fourth train at this time.”

The new Northbound morning train will depart Tacoma Dome Station at 7:10 A.M., 25 minutes after the current third train and arrive at Seattle’s King Street Station at 8:10 A.M. The new evening Southbound train will depart King Street Station at 4:20 P.M., 25 minutes earlier than the current first train. See the attached full Sounder weekday schedule.

In addition to the four weekday round-trip trains between Seattle and Tacoma, Sounder provides two weekday round-trips between Everett and Seattle and event service for Seattle Mariners and Seahawks weekend home games (with a 1:05 P.M. start).
