Museum of Glass shatters attendance goals

Tacoma’s Museum of Glass: International Center for Contemporary Art reports that since it opened in July 2002 almost 185,000 people have visited, breaking the museum’s attendance projections.

“We knew the museum was going to be a boon to Tacoma and the Pacific Northwest,” said Josi Callan, museum director. “But we had no idea that the interest would be this strong. Before we opened we had a goal of 165,000 visitors in our first year. We are extremely pleased to have surpassed that in only six months.”

Visitors from every state and over 35 countries have visited the museum.
Over 300 artists have participated at the museum by offering lectures, demonstrations and hands-on activities to visitors.

In addition, the museum currently has 4,900 members and has served 11,000 school children through educational programming.

The museum’s $48 million capital campaign was completed in 2002 and is now securing additional funding for operational and program expenses.

The Museum of Glass is located at 1801 E. Dock St.
