Former Tacoma Mayor Harold Moss will lead the Pierce County Council for the coming year following a unanimous council vote Tuesday, Jan. 8.
The 2002 leadership team also includes Pat OMalley of Lakewood, vice chair, and Wendell Brown of Tacoma, executive pro tem.
I appreciate the opportunity of serving in this capacity, said Moss, who was elected to the council in November 1996 and re-elected in November 2000.
Well try to keep it interesting. We may not always enjoy what we do, but I can assure you well be doing the best job we can.
Moss received the gavel from Brown, the 2001 chair. Brown was recognized with a resolution prepared by council staff and passed by his council peers. While commending the outgoing chair for 2001 accomplishments and leadership, the proclamation listed calamitous events that occurred during the year, including the Nisqually earthquake, energy crisis, drought, floods, Boeings move to Chicago, the stock market dive, county budget cuts and employee layoffs, Tim Eyman initiatives targeting local government, Districting Committee being challenged in court and the terrorist attacks against the U.S.
