Local firm celebrates 10th anniversary

In January 1992, founders Don Anderson and Blane Crawford officially opened their doors for business as Washington Architectural Hardware (WAH) in the Fife Business Park.
Ten years later, WAH boasts 38 employees, newly renovated office space with more than 14,000 square feet, record sales and a secure position as the leading distributor of architectural hardware in the south Puget Sound area.
The company’s impressive client list includes national projects involving Intel, Frank Russell Company, Weyerhaeuser, Microsoft and Verizon Wireless.
Local standouts include Charles Wright Academy, the University of Washington Tacoma, St. Clare Hospital, the Port of Tacoma and the Museum of Glass.
Daniel Absher, president of Absher Construction praised the company’s employee integrity and customer loyalty.
Recently presented with the Associated General Contractors of Washington’s highest project honor – the 2001 Grand Award for Construction Excellence for the Mott Children’s Center at Good Samaritan Hospital – Absher commented, “Subcontracting firms such as Washington Architectural Hardware consistently demonstrated a level of care, concern and professionalism and quality that, across the board, literally raised the bar and set a new standard of excellence in our industry.”
President of WAH Don Anderson is an example of these qualities. He has seen his company quadruple in sales from 1997, win international projects in Guam, Japan and the Indian Ocean, and experience stable growth in an uncertain economy.
Anderson’s company donates to charity and Anderson himself’s involvement in the Courage Classic, an arduous 172-mile bicycle ride through Washington’s Cascade Mountains. The annual trek benefits Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital.
“I’m very proud of our company’s accomplishments throughout the past ten years. Our success has been defined first and foremost by our employees,” he said. “Their ongoing commitment to personal and professional excellence has resulted in an outstanding sales performance and a strong foundation for the years to come.”
