Learn about updated surface water standards at Tacoma workshops

The City of Tacoma Surface Water Division will host two training opportunities to outline updates to the 2008 Surface Water Management Manual, which went into effect Sept. 22.
Individuals who might need to obtain stormwater permits or design stormwater management facilities in compliance with the manual are encouraged to attend one of the following two workshops:

— Thurs., Dec. 11: 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Central Treatment Plant’s Transmission Conference Room, 2201 Portland Ave., Tacoma.

— Mon., Jan. 12: 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Central Treatment Plant’s Transmission Conference Room, 2201 Portland Ave., Tacoma.

These workshops are intended for design professionals, developers and other individuals who need to understand and implement the updated Surface Water Management Manual. During the trainings, City staff will outline how to use the manual to determine which of the minimum requirements and watershed-specific requirements apply to a project. There will also be time to ask questions pertaining to individual projects.

The Surface Water Management Manual details the minimum standards for new development and redevelopment projects, including updated requirements for flow control (quantity), water quality (treatment), low-impact development techniques, and erosion and sediment control.

For more information or to RSVP, contact Mieke Hoppin at (253) 502-2105 or mhoppin@cityoftacoma.org . Space for the workshops is limited due to room capacity, so RSVP by Dec. 8 for the Dec. 11 workshop, and by Jan. 8 for the Jan. 12 workshop.
