“Laid-off Boeing workers have been certified under the federal Trade Act to receive training and support assistance that will augment resources recently provided under a bill passed this session by the state legislature and signed by Governor Gary Locke. This is great news for these laid-off workers, Locke said. This help will complement the state’s new Training Benefits bill.U.S. Department of Labor officials called the Governor’s Office to inform Locke that workers in the company’s Commercial Airplane Group had been certified as eligible. The certification came after officials determined The Boeing Company had laid off workers as a result of foreign competition, a requirement under the Trade Act. The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers filed for certification in late November on behalf of the Boeing workers. As available, additional information will be posted for Boeing workers on a special Web site located at www.wa.gov/esd/boeing.Information also will be available by calling 1-800-844-2817.”
