Upgrades to cameras and variable message signs along I-5 in Tacoma will cause outages today and Thursday. Today, the outage affects the 56th Street, Porter Way and Gravelly Lake cameras. On Thursday, the work will cause more extensive outage. Porter Way will be dark again, and a major splice will take place on I-5 at 96th Street. This work will cause lost communication to multiple cameras north and south of the work location for most of the day. Communication to the electronic reader board in will also be lost. Contractors will begin work each day at 9 a.m. and expect to have all cameras accessible by 4 p.m. During the outage, drivers can access traffic information from local radio and television news, by dialing 5-1-1 and the incident box on the Puget Sound traffic at http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/trafficalerts/PugetSound.aspx .
