HUD awards Tacoma $5.7 million in grants

It was announced last week by the Department of Housing and Urban Development that the City of Tacoma will receive a total of nearly $5.7 million in federal assistance to stimulate the economy, produce affordable housing and help the homeless.

“The funding we are announcing is an investment to promote economic development and job growth, increase the supply of affordable housing and help our most vulnerable neighbors,” said Mel Martinez, HUD secretary. “These resources are evidence of our continuing commitment to provide communities with the resources they need to meet the particular needs of their residents.”

The funding for Tacoma includes:

– $3,423,000 in Community Develop-ment Block Grand funds;
– $2,128,211 in Home Investment Parternship funding; and
– $113,000 in Emergency Shelter Grant.
