Law enforcement officers arrested 375 people for drug- and alcohol-related traffic offenses during the holiday emphasis patrol than ended New Years. The arrest total was the second highest on record of 403 in 1997.
Of those, 289 were arrested for driving under the influence, during the holiday crackdown that began Thanksgiving Day.
Officers from various police departments, the Pierce County Sheriffs Department, the Washington State Patrol, agents from the state Liquor Control Board, as well as military police from Ft. Lewis and McChord Air Force Base participated in the patrol.
