The City of Tacoma, local dignitaries and delegates from the Chinese government will gather Aug. 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the shore of Commencement Bay to break ground for Chinese Reconciliation Park. Ceremonies will include Mayor Bill Baarsma serving as moderator, an opening ceremony performed by Puyallup tribal leader Connie McCloud, consecration of the land by a Chinese priest and dancing by Chinese and Filipino performers.
